Poor or non release can be caused by a few different problems. You should
check the following:
Pilot Bearing:
 | A seizing pilot bearing can cause the clutch to act as if it is not
releasing. |
Clutch Disc:
 | A bent or damaged clutch disc may not release fully. Always check the disc
run-out on the input shaft before installing the assembly. |
 | Disc may be binding on the input shaft. Make sure the disc travels freely
on the input shaft before installing the assembly. |
Cable system:
 | A binding clutch cable can cause a poor or non release problem. When the
clutch cable binds in the sleeve it won't provide enough travel at the
clutch to release it. Replace the clutch cable to resolve this problem. |
 | Improper free play adjustment of the clutch cable can also cause a release
problem. |
Hydraulic system:
 | Air in the system, you need to bleed the system. |
 | Faulty or damaged seal in the Master Cylinder. |
 | The slave cylinder is leaking internally, causing not enough travel at the
clutch. |
 | Firewall flexing, this happens on Ford pick-ups in particular. When the
firewall flexing you do not get the maximum travel. |
Mechanical system:
 | Worn linkage, you don't need to find one major worn spot a few small spots
add up to one large problem. |
